services for visually-impaired persons
recorded books

there are recorded books for the visually impaired such as cassette tapes and DAISY on the 2nd-floor inquiries for the sight- and hearing- impaired. you can either listen to the recorded books in the library or borrow them. we also lend out recorded books by mail. these services are provided free of charge.

persons eligible for the services

residents in the city of Sendai and the Sendai urban area of 13 cities, towns and village and commuting workers and students from the suburbs, who are visually impaired.

Shiogama City, Natori City, Tagajo City, Iwanuma City, Watari-cho, Yamamoto-cho, Matsushima-machi, Shichigahama-machi, Rifu-cho, Taiwa-cho, Ohsato-cho, Tomiya-machi, Ohhira-mura

listening in the library

  • bring your user card and apply to the 2nd-floor Inquiries counter.
  • choose recorded books from the catalog available from the counter. a personal computer is also available when searching for recorded books.
  • we also lend out cassette tape recorders and DAISY players. please feel free to ask us for help when you search for recorded books or do not know how to use the equipment.
  • return recorded books to the counter after listening to them.
  • you can also borrow a PHS. call up the staff when you do not know how to use the machine or have finished listening to the recorded books.

borrowing from the library

  • to borrow recorded books from the library, bring the user card and apply to the 2nd-floor inquiries for the sight- and hearing- impaired counter.
  • you can borrow two recorded books at a time.
  • the loan period is 17 days. please return them to the inquiries counter within this period.
  • recorded books may be returned by mail (mail charges are paid by us).
