About "on display"
This project is intended to bring new charm to the Jozenji area through contemporary art. It involves the long-term exhibition of works by artists with ties to Sendai and Miyagi as well as those active in the current era inside the Sendai Mediatheque building. By offering free exhibitions of works that can only be seen at the Mediatheque, the project is intended to inspire new forms of communication with visitors from both within Japan and abroad.

Tadashi Kawamata
Artist Profile: Tadashi Kawamata is an artist based in Paris. Going beyond the framework of existing art expressions, Kawamata develops long-term projects that engage with architecture, urban planning, local history, and communities. In Sendai, as part of the Mediatheque's Art Node Project, he has been carrying out Sendai in Progress in coastal areas such as the Shinhama district in Miyagino Ward and the Ido district in Wakabayashi Ward since 2017, which has so far resulted in works such as "Wood Path for All" and "Idohama Pergola."

Exhibition Location: Near the escalator landing between 1st and 2nd floors.

Even after being affected by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, she continued her work in temporary housing, and the results were presented at her solo exhibition at this institution ("Lieko Shiga: RASEN KAIGAN," 2012). Shiga continues to live and work in Miyagi Prefecture.
Exhibited works: "RASEN KAIGAN 31", "On a Day When Snow Falls on the Sea, a Serpent's Path Emerges on the Shore; as You Walk beyond It, You Meet Those Dear Ones Who Are No Longer Here"
Exhibition Location: 7th floor southwest side and northwest side
(Lieko Shiga's works are scheduled to be exhibited starting in November 2025.)
